A Walk in the Woods January 31, 2010

As the rain stopped for a while today we took a chance and went for a good, long walk into the Beaver Lodge lands. This incredible trail system is a five-minute walk from our house, and is perfect for getting some fresh air.

We have to cross a busy road to get into the heart of the forest, but the city nicely put some underpasses along the main trails so that we don’t have to mess with the traffic. Once over, the traffic noises soon faded and we took great delight in the sounds around us. Tree frogs were in full voice, and we also saw a pair of woodpeckers and heard some song birds.

The dog, of course, loves this forest. He gets delightfully muddy!

There are a number of streams running through here, and Fisher Man of course has to stop and inspect them all for fish.

We were surprised that, although the trails were muddy, they weren’t even muddier considering the rain we’ve had in the last month.

Today’s walk took us on wide trails and narrow trails, up and down hills. We were gone for two hours, and came home slightly muddy but feeling much better for being out in the fresh air (without getting soaking wet).
